EDITORS COMMENTS
This print transports us back in time to Anderson Place, also known as Greyfriars or The Newe House, located in the historic city of Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. Taken from "Old England: A Pictorial Museum" published in 1847 by an anonymous English School artist from the 19th century, this image offers a glimpse into the architectural beauty of a long-lost gem. Anderson Place holds significant historical importance as it served as King Charles I's residence during his captivity under General Leven between 1646 and 1647. This regal connection adds an air of intrigue and grandeur to this already magnificent structure. Sadly, Anderson Place met its demise when it was demolished in 1836. However, through this photo print, we can still appreciate its splendor and imagine what life must have been like within its walls centuries ago. The composition captures the essence of Georgian architecture with its elegant symmetry and classical elements. The intricate detailing on the facade showcases the craftsmanship that went into constructing such a remarkable building. Thanks to Ken Welsh's expertise in preserving fine art prints like these, we can now relish in this visual treasure that allows us to step back into history for just a moment. Let your imagination wander as you admire this enchanting piece of Newcastle Upon Tyne's past.
