EDITORS COMMENTS
In this oil on canvas portrait, we are transported back to the year 1863 and introduced to three intriguing individuals - Amy, Dorothea, and Hungerford Wren Hoskyns. Painted by the talented William Blake Richmond, this piece measures 66x84 cm and is currently held in a private collection. The subjects of the painting are Chandos Hoskyns' children; he was the second son of Sir Christopher Wren's descendant, Baronet Hoskyns of Harewood. In 1837, Chandos changed his name by Royal Licence after marrying Theodosia, who was Sir Christopher Wren's great-granddaughter. This union led them to become known as the Wren-Hoskyns family. Set against a picturesque English landscape backdrop, we see a young boy and girl standing outdoors. They exude an air of innocence and curiosity that is characteristic of Victorian-era children. Their sibling bond is evident in their close proximity to one another. This exquisite painting captures not only the beauty of these young souls but also serves as a testament to their esteemed lineage. It reminds us of the importance placed on family ties during this era. Richmond's skillful brushwork brings depth and life into each figure portrayed here. As we gaze upon this timeless masterpiece from Bridgeman Images' Fine Art Finder collection, we cannot help but be drawn into its enchanting narrative - a glimpse into history frozen in time for all eternity.
