EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning aquatint print captures the grandeur and intricacy of the interior of the building in Hyde Park for the Exhibition of 1851. The artist, George Berger, meticulously depicts the three stories of the building as approved by Her Majesty's Commissioners, showcasing its impressive dimensions and architectural details. The central avenue, at a striking 72 feet wide, serves as the focal point of this vast structure. Surrounding it are other avenues and side spaces that offer ample room for exhibitions across various categories including raw materials, machinery, manufactures, and sculpture. Berger's attention to detail is evident in his rendering of the columns spaced precisely 24 feet apart and reaching heights up to 66 feet. The iron and glass composition of the building adds a modern touch to its classical design. As viewers gaze upon this print, they are transported back to a time when innovation and creativity were celebrated on such a grand scale. The exhibition held within these walls surely inspired awe and wonder among all who attended. This historical artwork serves as a reminder of not only the technological advancements showcased in 1851 but also the enduring beauty found in architecture that stands the test of time.
