EDITORS COMMENTS
This lithograph print, titled "Page from the Dialogus Creaturarum" takes us back to the 15th century Dutch School and offers a glimpse into the world of early printing and engraving. The page is adorned with intricate borders, decorative illustrations, and ornate Latin text that tells the story of a dialogue between the Sun, Moon, and various animals. The anthropomorphic nature of this artwork adds an enchanting touch as we witness celestial bodies engaging in conversation with earthly creatures. The suns and moons depicted here are not mere astronomical objects but characters with personalities and voices. The attention to detail in both illustration and typography showcases the skillful craftsmanship of this era. Each dialogue is accompanied by cuts in a style reminiscent of this particular plate, making it an exceptional example among its Dutch counterparts.
