EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the awe-inspiring Colossi of Memnon, statues of Amenhotep III, dating back to c. 1375-1358 BC. Created by the Egyptian 18th Dynasty during the reign of Amenhotep III, these colossal sandstone figures once stood proudly in front of his mortuary temple in Thebes, Egypt. Standing at an impressive height of 21.3 meters each, these ancient Egyptian masterpieces exude a sense of grandeur and power that is truly mesmerizing. Despite their age and weathering over centuries, they still retain their regal presence and command attention. One intriguing aspect associated with the northern statue is its remarkable ability to produce a haunting melody at dawn. Legend has it that after being cleaved to its waist by an earthquake in 27 BC, this statue became known as "Vocal Memnon". It was believed that when touched by the first rays of sunlight each day, it emitted a mysterious sound akin to singing. Photographer Julian Page expertly captures the magnificence and intricacy of these statues through his lens. His skillful composition allows us to appreciate every detail and texture carved into the stone by ancient hands. As we gaze upon this photograph print from Fine Art Finder, we are transported back in time to witness firsthand one of Egypt's most iconic landmarks—a testament to human ingenuity and artistic prowess that continues to captivate audiences across millennia.
