In this evocative photograph from Charlton Athletic's victory over Everton on December 28,2004, the tension and frustration on the face of Everton manager David Moyes are palpable. With Charlton leading 2-0, Moyes could not hide his annoyance as his team struggled to gain a foothold in the game. The Scot, who had taken over the reins at Goodison Park just over a year earlier, was known for his intense and passionate approach to management. However, on this particular day, his team were second best to a well-organized and determined Charlton side. The home team's first goal came in the 15th minute, with Darren Bent capitalizing on a defensive error to slot the ball past Everton goalkeeper Paul Gillespie. Charlton's second goal, scored by Claus Jensen in the 62nd minute, came against the run of play, but the Toffees were unable to mount a meaningful response. Moyes' frustration was compounded by the fact that Everton had lost their previous game, against Arsenal, and were now languishing in mid-table.
