Anthony Eden Collection

Anthony Eden was a British politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1955 to 1957. He was born in 1897 in County Durham, England and educated at Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford. Eden entered politics in 1923 when he was elected to Parliament for Warwick and Leamington. He held several ministerial posts throughout his career including Foreign Secretary from 1935-1938 and again from 1940-1945. During his time as Foreign Secretary, he played an important role in negotiating the end of World War II with Germany. In 1955, Eden succeeded Winston Churchill as Prime Minister but resigned two years later due to ill health caused by stress over the Suez Crisis. He died in 1977 at the age of 79 after a long illness. Anthony Eden is remembered for his dedication to public service and commitment to international peace during a tumultuous period of history.
