Bowes is a small village in County Durham, England, located in the North East of the United Kingdom, and is situated on the River Greta and has a population of around 1,000 people. The village has a long history dating back to at least 1086 when it was mentioned in the Domesday Book. It was once an important market town for local farmers and traders but now serves mainly as a residential area for commuters to nearby towns and cities such as Newcastle upon Tyne and Darlington. It also has some interesting historical sites such as Bowes Castle which dates from 12th century and St Mary's Church which dates from 13th century. There are also some lovely walks around the area including along the banks of Greta river where you can spot wildlife such as kingfishers or herons.
