Gwennap Collection

Gwennap is a civil parish and village located in Cornwall, England and is situated approximately 5 miles (8 km) south of Redruth and 8 miles (13 km) north of Penzance. The parish has a population of 1,722 according to the 2011 census. Gwennap is known for its copper mining industry which dates back to the 18th century and was once one of the most productive in Europe. The area also contains several historic sites such as Gwennap Pit, an open-air amphitheatre used for religious services by John Wesley during his visits to Cornwall in 1762–1790; Carn Brea Castle; and St Warna's Church which dates back to the 12th century. In addition, there are several nature reserves nearby including Kennall Vale Nature Reserve which provides habitat for rare species such as dormice and bats.
