Cricket - 1954 season - Glamorgan vs. Lancashire
Peter Marner, left, and Ken Grieves walk out to bat for Lancashire.

He is also the first person to win a limited-overs Man of the Match award, when Lancashire played its first Gillette Cup match against Leicestershire in 1963.
Grieves made 452 first-class appearances for the county between 1949 and 1964, scoring 20802 runs with 26 centuries, and a county record 555 catches. He was Lancashire captain in 1963 and 1964. He also played football as a goalkeeper for Wigan Athletic, Bury, Bolton and Stockport County

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from the 1954 cricket season, we witness two Lancashire legends, Peter Marner and Ken Grieves, striding confidently towards the pitch to bat. On the left stands Marner, a prodigious talent who etched his name in history as the youngest player ever to represent Lancashire at just 16 years and five months old. His exceptional skills would later earn him another remarkable achievement: becoming the first recipient of a limited-overs Man of the Match award during Lancashire's inaugural Gillette Cup match against Leicestershire in 1963. Beside Marner is Grieves, an iconic figure who dedicated his career to Lancashire for over a decade. With an impressive record of 452 first-class appearances between 1949 and 1964, Grieves amassed an astounding total of 20,802 runs with an impressive tally of 26 centuries. Not only did he excel with his batting prowess but also showcased incredible athleticism by securing a county record of 555 catches throughout his tenure. Beyond their cricketing achievements, it is worth noting that Grieves possessed versatile sporting abilities beyond the boundary ropes. He showcased his talents as a goalkeeper for several football clubs including Wigan Athletic, Bury, Bolton Wanderers and Stockport County. This evocative image captured by Colorsport / Provincial Press immortalizes these two legendary figures whose contributions have left an indelible mark on both Lancashire Cricket Club's rich history and English sports
