The Zulu Wars were a series of conflicts between the British colonial forces and the Zulu Kingdom, which had been a major power in Southern Africa. In this photograph, taken after Cetewayo's capture, he is shown in captivity, dressed in European clothing and seated on a chair. His expression is one of resignation and sadness, reflecting the loss of his kingdom and people. Cetewayo, also known as Cetshwayo kaMpande, was a skilled military leader and a respected ruler among the Zulu people.
