IC 2944, also known as the Running Chicken Nebula or the Lambda Centauri Nebula, is an open cluster with an associated emission nebula found in the constellation Centaurus, near the star Lambda Centauri. It features Bok globules, which are frequently a site of active star formation. However, no evidence for star formation has been found in any of the globules in IC 2944

The Running Chicken Nebula gets its peculiar name from its resemblance to a running chicken when observed from a distance. However, upon closer inspection, one can appreciate its true magnificence. This open cluster with an associated emission nebula is located near the star Lambda Centauri in Australia's New South Wales region. What makes IC 2944 even more fascinating are the Bok globules it features. These dense dark clouds within the nebula are often hotspots for active star formation. Surprisingly though, no evidence of such activity has been discovered within any of these globules so far.
