Kuniyoshi Utagawa Collection

Kuniyoshi Utagawa (1798-1861) was a Japanese artist of the ukiyo-e genre. He was born in Edo, now Tokyo, and studied under the renowned Utagawa Toyokuni. Kuniyoshi is best known for his woodblock prints depicting historical scenes, warriors, and other heroic figures from Japanese folklore. His works often featured humorous elements as well as exaggerated facial expressions and body proportions. He also produced many illustrations for books and other publications during his lifetime. Kuniyoshi's work has been highly praised by art historians for its technical skill and dynamic composition, making him one of the most influential artists of the ukiyo-e genre.
