Irving Underhill Collection

Irving Underhill (1890-1938) was an American artist who is best known for his paintings of landscapes, seascapes and figures. He studied at the Art Students League in New York City and later taught at the Grand Central School of Art. His works are characterized by a strong sense of light and color, as well as a mastery of composition. He was also an avid collector of Asian art, which he incorporated into his own work. Underhill exhibited widely throughout the United States during his lifetime, including at the National Academy of Design in New York City and the Corcoran Gallery in Washington D.C., among others.
