Alessandro Turchi Collection

Alessandro Turchi (1578-1649) was an Italian painter of the early Baroque period, active mainly in his hometown of Verona. He is also known as "il Orbetto" or "il Morbetto". He was a pupil of Felice Riccio and later worked under Domenico Ricci at the Palazzo Ducale in Mantua. His works are characterized by strong chiaroscuro effects and dramatic lighting, which were typical of the Caravaggisti style. He painted religious works such as The Conversion of St Paul (1617), The Martyrdom of Saint Lawrence (1620), and The Adoration of the Shepherds (1622). His secular works include portraits, genre scenes, and mythological paintings such as Diana and Actaeon (c. 1625). Turchi's work influenced many other artists from Italy to France.
