Pellegrino Tibaldi Collection

Pellegrino Tibaldi (1527–1596) was an Italian Mannerist architect, sculptor, and painter. He was born in Bologna and trained under the architect Bartolomeo Genga. His most famous works are the facade of the church of Santa Maria presso San Celso in Milan and the Palazzo del Te in Mantua. He also designed many churches, palaces, and villas throughout Italy. His style is characterized by its use of complex geometrical forms, elaborate ornamentation, and a combination of classical elements with Renaissance motifs. Tibaldi's influence can be seen in many later architects such as Bernini and Borromini. His work is considered to be a major contribution to Italian Mannerism architecture.
