Carl Schuch Collection

Carl Schuch (1846-1903) was a German painter and printmaker who is best known for his landscapes, genre scenes, and portraits. He was born in Frankfurt am Main and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Hans Makart. His early works were influenced by the Nazarene movement, but he later developed his own style which combined elements of Realism with Impressionism. He also experimented with etching techniques to create prints that captured the atmosphere of his paintings. In addition to painting, Schuch also taught at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1875 until his death in 1903. His works are held in many public collections including those of the National Gallery in Berlin and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
