Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld (1794-1872) was a German painter and engraver who is best known for his illustrations of the Bible. He was born in Leipzig, Germany, and studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. He worked as a court painter to King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia before becoming a professor at the Academy in 1835. His most famous work is his series of 60 illustrations for the Bible which were published between 1827 and 1836. He also painted frescoes for churches throughout Germany, including those in Berlin's Stadtkirche Unter den Linden and Dresden's Frauenkirche. His works are characterized by their attention to detail, vibrant colors, and religious themes.
