Henry Sandham Collection

Henry Sandham was a Canadian painter and illustrator of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He is best known for his illustrations in books, magazines, and newspapers, as well as his paintings of historical scenes. Born in 1842 in Montreal, he studied at the Art Association of Montreal before moving to New York City to pursue a career as an illustrator. His work appeared in Harper's Weekly, Scribner's Magazine, The Century Magazine, and other publications. He also illustrated several books including Mark Twain's "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court". In addition to his illustrations he painted many historical scenes such as the Battle of Lundy's Lane during the War of 1812. He died in 1913 leaving behind a legacy that includes over 200 works ranging from landscapes to portraits.
