Martin Archer Shee (1769-1850) was an Irish portrait painter and president of the Royal Academy. He studied at the Dublin Society Schools and then in London under Benjamin West, where he became a successful portrait painter. He was elected to the Royal Academy in 1810 and became its president in 1828. His works are characterized by their sensitivity, subtlety, and delicacy of expression.
