Lazio Viterbo Ronciglione Ss Pietro e Caterina

Lazio Viterbo Ronciglione Ss. Pietro e Caterina, this is my Italy, the italian country of visual history, Post-medieval Architecture, sculpture, tabernacle, painting, ceiling frescoes. The Duomo is a Baroque structure build according to a design by Pietro da Cortona. The facade was renovated in the 17th century by Carlo Rainaldi 1671-1695, and the campanile was added in 1734. Upon a transept altar is placed a triptych of the Savior, depicting Christ, the Virgin and S. John. The triptych, by Gabriele di Francesco of Viterbo, dates from the 15th century. Directly above the altar is a painting of the Assumption by Francesco Trevisani. Also in the transept is the altar of the Madonna of the Rosary, by Giuseppe Ghezzi. Above the main altar is a painting of the Madonna and Child with saints, a work of the school of Giulio Romano

Bacchus on a chariot preceded by a drunken procession of nude men, women and satyrs

Bacchus in hoc vehitur curru: comitantur euntem capripedes satyri, thyades Bacchaeque furentes, gesticulatores, mimi, puerique caprorum tergora calcantes: grex ebrius undique psallit. Miraris turbae furias ita vertimur omnes, qui colimus madidi stultissima sacra. Lyaei. Iulius Romanus inuentor Romae
Translation of lettering: In this chariot Bacchus is carried. Goat-footed satyrs accompany him on his way, raving Bacchants, acrobats, mimes and boys spurring the backs of goats. On all sides the drunken flock plays the cithara. You would marvel at the ravings of the crowd. Thus are we all transformed who worship the most stupid rites of the liquid Lyaeus [i.e. Bacchus].
