Paul Ranson Collection

Paul Ranson (1864-1909) was a French painter and one of the founders of the Nabis art movement. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he was influenced by Impressionism and Symbolism. His works were characterized by bright colors, flat shapes, and decorative patterns. He often used Japanese prints as inspiration for his paintings. Ranson also wrote several books on art theory, including The Art of Decorative Painting (1893). His most famous painting is The Siesta (1890), which depicts a woman taking a nap in a garden surrounded by flowers and butterflies. Ranson's work had an influence on many other artists such as Pierre Bonnard and Maurice Denis who were part of the Nabis movement. He died in 1909 at the age of 45 due to complications from diabetes.
