Louis Raemaekers Collection

Louis Raemaekers (1869-1956) was a Dutch artist and cartoonist who is best known for his political cartoons during World War I. Raemaekers was born in Roermond, Netherlands, and studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. He began his career as an illustrator for newspapers and magazines before becoming a political cartoonist in 1909. His cartoons were published widely throughout Europe and the United States, often depicting German atrocities during WWI. His work earned him international acclaim and he received numerous awards including the Order of Orange-Nassau from Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. He continued to produce artwork until his death in 1956 at age 87. His legacy lives on through his powerful works which remain relevant today as reminders of war's devastating effects on humanity.
