Andrea Pozzo (1642-1709) was an Italian Jesuit brother and artist who is best known for his Baroque frescoes and architectural designs. He was born in Trento, Italy, and studied painting in Venice before joining the Jesuit order in 1665. Pozzo's most famous work is the ceiling of Sant'Ignazio Church in Rome, which features a trompe l'oeil illusion of a dome that appears to be real but is actually painted on the flat surface. His other works include frescoes at churches throughout Italy as well as designs for several churches and palaces. In addition to his artistic work, Pozzo wrote extensively about perspective drawing techniques which have been highly influential among artists since his time.
