Thomas Pennant Collection

Thomas Pennant (1726-1798) was an English naturalist, traveller and writer. He is best known for his works on zoology and natural history, particularly his two-volume work British Zoology (1768–1769). He also wrote extensively about the Welsh landscape and its inhabitants. Pennant travelled widely in Britain, Europe and North America, recording his observations in a series of books which were highly regarded by contemporary readers. His works are still studied today for their insight into 18th century life. Pennant was a Fellow of the Royal Society and a member of several other learned societies including the Linnean Society.
