James Northcote Collection

James Northcote (1746-1831) was an English painter, art collector and writer. He was born in Plymouth, Devon and studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Northcote is best known for his portraits of prominent figures such as Lord Byron and Sir Joshua Reynolds. He also painted a number of landscapes, including views of the Thames and the countryside around London. His work was highly praised by his contemporaries for its technical skill and attention to detail.
