Charles Etienne Pierre Motte Collection

Charles Etienne Pierre Motte was a French painter and sculptor who was born in 1809. He is best known for his sculptures of historical figures, such as Napoleon, and his paintings of landscapes and seascapes. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris before travelling to Rome to further his studies. His works were exhibited at the Salon de Paris from 1831 onwards, where he won several awards for his sculptures. In addition to sculpture and painting, Motte also worked on architectural projects such as the restoration of the Louvre Museum in Paris. His works are held in many public collections including those of the Musée du Louvre, Musée d'Orsay and Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lille.
