Henry Robert Morland Collection

Henry Robert Morland (1716-1797) was an English portrait and history painter. He was born in London, the son of a bookseller and publisher. He studied under Sir Godfrey Kneller, one of the leading portrait painters of the day. Morland's portraits were highly sought after by members of the aristocracy and he painted many prominent figures including King George III and Queen Charlotte. His works also included religious paintings, landscapes, still lifes, genre scenes and historical subjects. He exhibited at the Society of Artists from 1761 to 1791 as well as at other venues such as Spring Gardens in London. His work is held in many public collections including Tate Britain and The National Portrait Gallery in London.
