James Malton Collection

James Malton (1761-1803) was an Irish painter, printmaker, and architectural draughtsman. He is best known for his topographical views of Dublin and other cities in Ireland. He also produced a number of prints depicting the architecture of ancient Greece and Rome. Malton was a founding member of the Royal Hibernian Academy in 1790, where he served as its first professor of perspective from 1795 to 1803. His work had a great influence on later Irish artists such as William Ashford and Francis Johnston. Malton's works are held in many public collections including the National Gallery of Ireland, the British Museum, and the Victoria & Albert Museum. His legacy lives on today through – an organization dedicated to promoting his life's work by exhibiting his artworks around the world.
