Melchior Lorck Collection

Melchior Lorck (1526-1583) was a Danish artist and printmaker who is best known for his woodcuts. He was born in Copenhagen and trained as an engraver in Antwerp. In 1550, he traveled to Constantinople, where he created a series of prints depicting the city's architecture and monuments. He also produced portraits of Ottoman sultans and other important figures. His work had a major influence on the development of printmaking in Europe, particularly in Germany and Italy.
