Samuel Ireland Collection

Samuel Ireland was an 18th century British author, printmaker, and antiquary. He is best known for his work in the field of arts and antiquities. He was born in London in 1744 and studied at the Royal Academy of Arts. His most famous work is a series of prints depicting ancient monuments from around Britain, which he published as part of his book Antiquarian Repertory (1786-1801). Ireland also wrote several books on art history and architecture, including A Picturesque Tour Through Italy (1790) and The Ruins of Ancient Rome (1791). In addition to his writing, he was also a collector of rare books and manuscripts. He died in 1812 leaving behind a legacy as one of the most influential figures in British art history.
