Marie-Louise de Hapsburg-Lorraine was an Austrian archduchess and the second wife of Napoleon Bonaparte. She was born in 1791 in Vienna, Austria and was the daughter of Francis II, Holy Roman Emperor. Marie-Louise married Napoleon in 1810 and they had one son together, Napoleon II. After her husband's exile to Elba in 1814, she returned to Austria with her son where she lived until her death in 1847. Marie-Louise is remembered for her strong will and determination during a difficult period of European history. She is also remembered for her patronage of the arts which included commissioning works from some of Europe's most renowned artists such as Jacques Louis David, Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, and Antonio Canova.
