Orazio Gentileschi (1563-1639) was an Italian Baroque painter, known for his dramatic and vibrant works. He was born in Rome, and trained under the renowned Caravaggio. His style was heavily influenced by Caravaggio's use of chiaroscuro and tenebrism, but he also developed his own unique approach to painting. He is best known for his religious paintings such as "The Madonna and Child with St. Anne" (1605), "The Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian" (1620), and "Judith Slaying Holofernes" (1612). He also painted mythological scenes such as "Danae Receiving the Golden Rain" (c. 1621). Gentileschi's works were highly sought after during his lifetime, and he had many wealthy patrons including Pope Paul V, King Charles I of England, Cardinal Scipione Borghese, and the Medici family in Florence.
