Carel Fabritius Collection

Carel Fabritius was a Dutch painter of the 17th century, best known for his work as one of Rembrandt's students. He was born in Middenbeemster in 1622 and died tragically at the age of 32 in an explosion that destroyed much of Delft. His most famous painting is The Goldfinch, which depicts a small bird perched on a fence post. Fabritius' style was unique and he often used bright colors to create dynamic compositions. He also experimented with light and shadow to create depth within his paintings. His works were highly regarded by his contemporaries, but he did not receive widespread recognition until after his death when art historians began to recognize him as an important influence on Dutch Baroque painting. Fabritius' legacy continues today through his works which are now held in many major museums around the world.
