William Daniell Collection

William Daniell (1769-1837) was an English landscape and marine painter, etcher, and aquatint engraver. He is best known for his two volumes of aquatint engravings entitled A Voyage Round Great Britain (1814-25). The works were inspired by his travels around the British Isles with his uncle Thomas Daniell. William's work was highly praised by contemporary critics for its accuracy and beauty. His paintings are characterized by their attention to detail, as well as their vibrant colors and light effects. He also produced a number of prints depicting scenes from the Napoleonic Wars. In addition to being a talented artist, William Daniell was also a skilled teacher who taught many students in London during the early 19th century. His influence can still be seen today in the works of many British landscape painters who followed him.
