John Robert Cozens Collection

John Robert Cozens was an 18th century English landscape painter and printmaker. He is best known for his watercolours of the Lake District, which were highly influential on the development of Romanticism in British art. He was born in London in 1752 and studied under Francis Hayman at the Royal Academy Schools. His work was exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1773 to 1777, and he later travelled extensively throughout Europe, producing numerous sketches that would serve as inspiration for his later works. Cozens' influence on British art can be seen in many of JMW Turner's works, particularly those depicting landscapes with dramatic lighting effects. His legacy lives on through his prints and drawings, which are still widely admired today by both art historians and collectors alike.
