Charles Antoine Coypel (1694-1752) was a French painter, art theorist, and playwright. He was the son of the court painter to Louis XIV, Noël Coypel. Charles Antoine studied under his father and then at the Académie Royale in Paris. His paintings were mostly religious scenes and allegorical works, often with a humorous touch. He also wrote several plays for the Comédie Française which were successful in their time.
