Pierre Cartellier Collection

Pierre Cartellier (1757-1831) was a French sculptor and artist who is best known for his work in the neoclassical style. He studied under Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne and then went on to become a professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His works are characterized by their graceful lines, delicate details, and classical themes. He created many busts of famous figures such as Voltaire, Rousseau, and Napoleon Bonaparte. Cartellier also produced several large sculptures including The Triumph of Alexander the Great at the Tuileries Gardens in Paris. His works were widely praised during his lifetime and he was awarded numerous honors including being made a Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 1804.
