Jacques Callot (1592-1635) was a French printmaker and draftsman who is considered one of the most important printmakers in European art history. He was born in Nancy, France, and trained as an engraver under Philippe Thomassin. His works are characterized by their intricate detail and delicate lines, which he achieved through his mastery of etching techniques. Callot's most famous works include The Miseries and Misfortunes of War (1633), a series of prints depicting the horrors of war; The Large Hunting Scenes (1620-21); and The Small Hunting Scenes (1625).
