John Lewis Brown Collection

John Lewis Brown is an African American artist and sculptor. He was born in Mississippi in 1941 and moved to Chicago at the age of 17. His works are inspired by his experiences growing up in the South, as well as his travels around the world. Brown's sculptures often feature themes of African American history, culture, and identity. He has exhibited his work at galleries across the United States, including The Art Institute of Chicago, The Museum of Modern Art in New York City, and The Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C., among others. Brown has also been awarded numerous awards for his work over the years including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship Award (1985) and a Lifetime Achievement Award from The International Sculpture Center (2009).
