Francois Bonvin (1817-1887) was a French realist painter who is considered to be one of the most important figures in the development of Realism in France. He was born in Paris and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts under Paul Delaroche. His works were largely inspired by his rural surroundings, depicting scenes of everyday life with an emphasis on realism and detail. He also painted portraits, still lifes, and landscapes. Bonvin's style was heavily influenced by Dutch painting from the 17th century as well as by Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot's Barbizon School paintings.
