Gabriel Bodenehr Collection

Gabriel Bodenehr (1673-1765) was a German Baroque printmaker and engraver. He is best known for his series of prints, the Theatrum Europaeum, which depicted the major cities of Europe in the early 18th century. He was born in Augsburg and trained as an engraver under Johann Ulrich Kraus. In 1702 he moved to Nuremberg where he established his own publishing house and workshop. His works were highly sought after by collectors across Europe due to their high quality and accuracy. He also produced a number of maps, plans, views and illustrations for books on history, geography and architecture. Bodenehr's work had a great influence on later generations of printmakers such as Albrecht Dürer, who praised him for his skillful use of line engraving techniques.
