William Kay Blacklock Collection

William Kay Blacklock (1880-1951) was a British painter and printmaker, best known for his landscapes and seascapes. He was born in Liverpool, England and studied at the Liverpool School of Art. After graduating, he moved to London where he worked as an illustrator for magazines such as The Graphic and Illustrated London News. In 1910 he became a member of the Royal Society of British Artists. His works were often inspired by his travels around Britain; his paintings depict scenes from the English countryside, coastal towns, fishing villages and harbours. He also painted many portraits throughout his career. Blacklock's work is held in several public collections including the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, Tate Britain in Liverpool and Manchester City Art Gallery. His art has been described as having a "lyrical quality" with its use of light and colour to create atmosphere within each painting or printmaking piece.
