Jan Blaeu Collection

Jan Blaeu (1596-1673) was a Dutch cartographer, publisher, and globemaker. He is best known for his atlas of the world, the Atlas Maior, which was published in 1662. The Atlas Maior contained more than 594 maps and 3,000 pages of text in 11 volumes. It was one of the most comprehensive works of its time and is considered to be one of the greatest achievements in cartography. Blaeu also published other works such as his Theatrum Orbis Terrarum (Theatre of the World), which contained maps from all over Europe as well as parts of Asia and Africa. He also produced globes that were used to teach geography to students. Jan Blaeu's work has had a lasting impact on modern cartography and he is remembered today as one of the most influential figures in mapping history.
