Cornelis de Bie Collection

Cornelis de Bie (1627-1715) was a Flemish Baroque painter, poet and biographer. He is best known for his book on painters, Het Gulden Cabinet der Edel Vry Schilderconst (The Golden Cabinet of the Noble Art of Painting), which contains biographies of more than 500 painters from the 16th and 17th centuries. De Bie's work was highly influential in the Low Countries during his lifetime and it continues to be studied today by art historians. He also wrote poetry, including a collection of love poems entitled Liefkens Madrigalen (Love Madrigals). De Bie's work has been praised for its accuracy and attention to detail, as well as its vivid descriptions of life in 17th century Flanders.
