William Barraud Collection

William Barraud (1799-1869) was a British painter and engraver. He was born in London and studied at the Royal Academy of Arts. He is best known for his paintings of animals, particularly horses, which he painted with great skill and accuracy. His works were exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1822 to 1868. He also engraved plates for books such as The Sportsman's Cabinet (1833), The National Gallery of British Art (1836) and The Animal Kingdom (1843). In addition to his painting career, Barraud was an active member of the Society of Painters in Water Colours and served as its President from 1851-53. His works are still highly sought after today by collectors around the world.
