Maria Konstantinova Bashkirtseva (1858-1884) was a Russian painter, known for her portraits and genre scenes. She was born into a wealthy family in St. Petersburg, and received her artistic education at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg from 1877 to 1883. Her works were exhibited at the Academy's exhibitions from 1880 to 1883, where she won several awards for her paintings. She also exhibited her work outside Russia, including Paris and Vienna. Her work is characterized by its realism and attention to detail, as well as its psychological insight into the characters she portrayed in her paintings. Bashkirtseva died of tuberculosis at the age of 26, leaving behind an impressive body of work that has been widely admired by art critics throughout history.
