Louis Ernest Barrias Collection

Louis Ernest Barrias (1841-1905) was a French sculptor of the Beaux-Arts school. He was born in Paris, where he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts under François Jouffroy and Alexandre Falguière. He won the Prix de Rome in 1868, and subsequently exhibited at the Salon for over four decades. His work is characterized by a realism inspired by Greek classicism, and often features allegorical figures representing various aspects of life or history. He also created several monuments dedicated to famous French figures such as Napoleon Bonaparte and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. His works can be found in many public spaces throughout France, including the Louvre Museum and Versailles Palace.
