Giovanni Baglione Collection

Giovanni Baglione was an Italian painter and art historian who lived in Rome during the Baroque period. He was a member of the Academy of St. Luke and a founding member of the Accademia di San Luca, which was founded in 1593. His most famous works include "The Last Supper" (1602) and "The Martyrdom of St. Lawrence" (1603). He also wrote a book on painting, entitled Le Vite de' Pittori, Scultori ed Architetti Moderni (Lives of Modern Painters, Sculptors and Architects), which is considered to be one of the most important sources for biographical information on artists from that time period. Baglione's work has been praised for its technical skill as well as its emotional intensity. He is remembered today as one of the great painters from the Baroque era who helped to shape modern art history.
