Philip Burne-Jones Collection

Philip Burne-Jones was an English painter and illustrator, born in London in 1833. He was the son of the Pre-Raphaelite artist Edward Burne-Jones and his wife Georgiana. Philip studied at the Royal Academy Schools from 1852 to 1856, where he developed a style that combined elements of his father's Pre-Raphaelite aesthetic with a more classical approach. His works often featured mythological themes, particularly those from Greek mythology. He also produced illustrations for books such as The Odyssey and The Iliad by Homer, as well as Dante's Divine Comedy. Philip exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy throughout his career and was elected an Associate Member in 1870. He died in 1898 after suffering a stroke while on holiday in Italy with his family. His work is still highly regarded today for its skillful blending of traditional techniques with modern sensibilities.
